Why Poland?

Urban regeneration processes carried out in Poland are unique on a worldwide scale. Strategies adopted over the past few years have been consistently implemented in multiple cities across the country.

Every city in the world has to face social, financial, economic or environmental challenges, but Poland has been able to create efficient mechanisms of combatting these issues and, most importantly, understood how important it is to adopt an individual approach.

For several years now, urban regeneration has been Poland’s strategic objective, allowing our country to become a leader of change not only in Europe, but the entire world. Hosting EXPO 2022 would allow Poland to not only increase its tourist appeal, but most importantly would constitute a chance to kickstart a second wave of modernisation and share our achievements in the field of urban regeneration with the world.

The effects of urban regeneration processes can be seen in many places across the country. Notable examples include the regeneration of the districts of Nadodrze in Wrocław, Stare Miasto in Bydgoszcz, Letnica in Gdańsk or Praga in Warsaw, as well as programs such the City of Tenements in Łódź. Returning run-down areas to their former glory and encouraging bustling social life is becoming a priority for local and central authorities. Changes initiated several years ago are becoming more and more evident to people living in Poland’s cities.

As Poles, we can be proud of the way our environment is changing and of the fact that we are more and more willing to take initiative and have our say in the changes made to our neighbourhoods.
