Ecological bags – which ones are the best?
Ecological bags – which ones are the best?
Many of these bags get thrown into the oceans, where they become a trap for birds, fish, and other marine animals.
This year, D’Bone Collector Museum’s employees in the Philippines caught a dead whale, which had 40 kg of plastic in its stomach, including many plastic bags. That is only one of many tragic examples.
Despite the publicized problems, we still pack our purchases without thinking: one tomato in one plastic bag, one cucumber into another, and a banana into a third one. After taking them our, plastic bags automatically go to the trash. We forget that the production of this type of plastic takes a few seconds, but its decomposition takes 450 years.
Our daily choices translate into the lives of other creatures. Therefore, when we decide to get out of our comfort zone and fight for a better environment, replace plastic bags for multifunctional and reusable bags.
But what bags are the best?
On the market, we can find eco-bags made primarily of cotton, flax, jute or paper.
A cotton bag – why is it so great?
With natural materials, products inside the bag “breathe”, thus avoiding the risk of mould and maintaining freshness for longer.
This bag is soft, lightweight, and can be easily washed. It facilitates the transport of products – not only fruits and vegetables but also heavier ones, like jars, glass containers, etc. Most often, they are made of calico or organic cotton.
We can take a cotton bag anywhere: bazaar, market or supermarket. It takes up little space, and when folded it easily fits into a pocket, purse, etc.
Jute bag, the second after cotton!
It is made from plant fibres that are the cheapest on the market. The fibres are arranged into suitable weaves to provide stability and resistance to fraying. Jute bag handles are generally made of bamboo.
Linen bag
A bag made of this material has almost the same characteristics as cotton. Therefore, with a clear conscience, we can use them interchangeably.
Paper bag
The most eco ones, grey, are made from recycled raw materials. They have a very pleasant appearance. But looks are not everything. Unfortunately, these bags are the least durable and we can carry only lightweight products in them.
All the bags mentioned in the article are fully biodegradable. In addition, they can make us feel special – many companies offer bags with different types of inscriptions, making them an intriguing addition to our outfit. The only argument behind the choice of an eco bag is its intended use.
