10 ideas for green life

A quick pace of life, eating on the run, buying things you do not really need – do you know this? How about changing everything and becoming more aware? Of course, it does not have to be everything at once, you can do it gradually. Ecological behaviour is not just about segregating waste or buying bioproducts. Below, you will find a list of ideas for green life, that you can use regardless of your age or place of residence.

  1. Your own garden: where you can grow your own vegetables! It is clear that the more place, the better, especially if you have a huge garden by your own house. However, plants can also be grown on a little balcony, in a neighbourhood flat: herbs, tomatoes, flowers – the choice is yours.
  2. Slow fashion: to put it shortly – what matters is quality, not quantity. Do you really need three similar blouses in your wardrobe? When have you last put on that jacket bought two years ago that is now left forgotten on the hanger? Before you buy a specific thing, think if you really need it and if you can buy it from another user. Many websites have appeared for this exact purpose; at auctions, you can buy jackets or shirts that have been only worn once or have turned out to be missed gifts. The clothes will get a second life, rather than winding up at a trash dump and decomposing for many years.
  3. Segregation: this is not just a fashion anymore, this is a necessity! By throwing specific objects to the relevant containers, you will cause a larger quantity of waste to be recycled.
  4. Reduced fuel consumption: choose a bicycle or a walk at least once a week. This will be favourable to the environment as well as to your health. If your coworkers live nearby, make a ride-sharing schedule; one car can take five people and will surely consume much less fuel than five vehicles. This is also a pleasant way to know your colleagues better.
  5. Saving: above all, of water and electric power. If you wish to refresh clean clothes, turning the washing machine on for the full cycle (lasting for three hours) is unnecessary. To water your plants, you do not need tap water; use what the nature gives – rainwater.
  6. Shopping by weight: shopping with your own containers might not be very comfortable but it is certainly ecological and cost-effective. Buying products in bulk, you will save money and… the planet. Thus you will reduce the amount of packages made of artificial materials that take very long to decompose.
  7. Abandonment of plastic: first, give up on drinking straws; get yourselves metal or paper ones instead. Replace a plastic toothbrush with a bamboo one and pick up a glass bottle of juice rather than a plastic one. Keeping these alternatives in mind, you will start noticing how ubiquitous plastic has become in everyday life.
  8. Natural cosmetics: the room for choice is becoming increasingly wider here. Local companies are already offering more than natural soap, toothpaste, shampoo; the new products include natural powders and nail polishes.
  9. Rechargeable batteries instead of single-use ones: closed stores during trips are not a problem anymore – you do not have to buy another pair of batteries if you have a rechargeable battery. Moreover, single-use batteries are unfavourable to the environment – they usually land in a bin together with all other waste, while they may decompose for as much as 500 years.
  10. Trips to the nature: they will let you see the beauty around you! You do not have to go far; a park or a nearby forest will be enough for you to relax, have some rest and distance yourself from the quick pace of life.
