Cleaning the house in an ecological way
Cleaning the house in an ecological way
Currently on the market you can find a huge number of cleaners: detergents for white clothes, black clothes, carpets, separate formulas to clean hardwood floors, floor panels, cleaning milks used in the kitchen or bathroom. Manufacturers are trying to entice consumers with attractive packaging and advertising that convey one idea – that these products are essential. Or are they?
History repeats itself
Decades ago, or even a dozen years ago, we did not have such dilemmas. We used proved, traditional products, which were easily accessible and natural. Today, with a growing number of people interested in zero waste or simply ecology, we can see a return to traditional methods of cleaning. All the necessary ingredients are in the kitchens and hand-made products reduce the amount of inhaled chemicals.
Proven ways
You don’t need a home lab to create a kitchen cleaner. You can find plenty of simple recipes for eco powders, liquid or milks. We believe that your grandmothers still remember such solutions.
For starters, you can make cleaning paste that can be used in all rooms. You will need a bar of soap (approx. 1.5 g), 1.5 cups of baking soda and 1/4 cup of hot water. Stir everything. Soda has abrasive and cleaning properties and should clean dirty areas. A combination of vinegar and water (2:1 or 1:1, depending on the quality of vinegar) is a universal cleaning agent. This mixture is great for cleaning refrigerators and showers. However, don’t use it to clean marble or granite surfaces. To avoid the intense smell of vinegar, you can add a few drops of your favourite essential oil.
