Electric cars: a new standard or a temporary trend?
What changes are going to happen in the automotive market?
In September 2018, the first ever summit dedicated to electric vehicles took place. In Birmingham, industry specialists, constructors and scientists met to share experiences related to the production, sale and use of electric cars. More and more countries are ready to withdraw from using cars powered by petrol, oil or gas before 2040. It seems that electric cars are an inevitable future.
The main advantages of electric cars are the following:
No air pollution - electric cars do not have an internal combustion engine, so they do not emit fumes into the atmosphere.
Low noise - the electric drive is extremely quiet.
Saving natural resources - it is expected that fossil fuel deposits will run out over the next decades, so it is necessary to turn towards renewable energy sources.
Fight against global warming - electric cars contribute to reducing the risks of climate change.
Favorable state policy - in many countries, citizens deciding to buy an electric car can count on tax breaks.
However, do not forget what is the source of energy for this type of cars. The electricity they use is produced mainly from the most popular mine fuel - coal, which means that greenhouse gas emissions may not be significantly reduced, which is what the supporters of electric cars expect. Without significant changes in the energy policy in the world, the electrification of public transport will not bring about any significant changes in the protection of the natural environment.
