Houses for insects – invite beneficial insects to your garden
Houses for insects – invite beneficial insects to your garden
Winter is a difficult time for insects. The biodiversity of our ecosystem is increasingly threatened and, if possible, we should include the society in caring for the fauna. All in all, some insects are very useful and even indispensable. How can we help them? By creating houses for insects!
Places, where selected species can safely live and reproduce. They are made mostly from natural materials such as boards or branches. Small, pretty structures are composed of dozens of wider or narrow tunnels. These openings replace natural breeding places of insects. Insects can live permanently in friendly conditions. Place such houses in your garden or orchard so that insects could live there.
Different types of houses are designed for various species. They should resemble, as close as possible, natural conditions. This is partly a question of their size. Houses should be placed in slightly sunny and dry parts of the garden. They should be hung on tree trunks, wooden structural elements or brick building elements. Stable mounting is very important to protect them against wind. By mounting houses for insects, protect them with metal mesh, because birds often destroy them.
Let’s do this! Help insects before winter!
